Swirl our 2009 A by Acacia Red Blend to reveal forward, ripe-fruit aromas of plum and strawberry. On the palate, you’ll discover a nice balance of bright fruit and acidity, with hints of strawberry, raspberry and dark cherry. The texture is soft and inviting; the aftertaste lingers delightfully. The core varietal in this blend is Syrah, a grape that originated in France’s northern Rhône Valley. Winemaker Tom Westberg blended four other varietals into the Syrah to add layers of delicious dark-fruit and spice expression. Tom likes to pour this friendly, approachable wine with grilled sirloin steak, risotto with herbs, and Mexican dishes, such as chili verde.
Wine maker notes
We harvested the grapes in September and October, as each varietal reached full maturity. We lightly crushed only half of the grapes, retaining the balance as whole berries. By allowing the 10-day fermentation to take place partially within whole berries (called carbonic maceration), we achieved a fruit-forward, supple wine style. We then pressed the wine and transferred it to oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation and 15 months of aging.
