Sweet, silky and lush, with black cherry, bitter chocolate and menthol flavors building inexorably on the palate and lingering impressively on the finish, which features aromatic suggestions of leather and sweet oak. The tannins are broad and suave. I found this distinctly more pliant and expressive than the rather brooding 2002, which has a strong menthol quality and is in a closed stage today."
