The Catena Family has been making wines for over 100 years, with patriarch Nicola Catena planting his first Malbec vines in 1902. At the time, the Malbec grape was used in traditional Bordeaux blends, but Nicola prophesized that the grape would find a new home amongst the splendor of the Argentinean Andes. The next three generations of Catena winemakers tended the vines meticulously, crafted their wines traditionally, and systematically expanding their land holdings in Mendoza. Today the family vineyard is run by Nicolas Catena, Nicola's grandson, who is himself bringing Catena Family wines to the forefront on modern wine production at age 68. With the help of his daughter Laura, the five Catena vineyards produce world class Malbec, Cabernet Sauvigon and Chardonnay under five different labels. All highly rated and thoroughly tasted, Catena represent a tremendous value from one of the top wine producing regions in all the world.
